What's going on in this world?

On today's paper -El País, Spain- I read people are in U.S, prisons for making jokes on terrorism. French guy, English girl... sick of paranoid measures, make joking comments -"watch out! I've got 3 bombs in that case!" during a long search through her two suitcases; "No, I didn't place any bombs" to stweardess who kept looking at him all the time, finally "Oh! the bomb in the toilet finally didn't work!" as she kept watching him for hours- this sort of thing is going to drive everyone nuts!
